Curtis is a native of Yarrawonga, Victoria, Australia she is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales a Filipina from Bolinao Pangasinan and James Ernest Curtis Smith, an Australian lawyer. Her father James Ernest Curtis-Smith was married to Ojales in 1982. Her younger sibling Jasmine was also an actor. The father of the couple had an older half-sister known as Clare, who passed away in 2007 aged 4 months of cardiovascular disease.
